Manny Pacquiao Ascending in the Music Chart

Forget Floyd Mayweather Jr., the person that Manny Pacquiao should be going after is Adele.
Pacquiao's version of the Dan Hill hit Sometimes When We Touch is now No. 11 on the Secondary Adult Contemporary chart this week.

Adele's Rolling in the Deep is No.1 with Lady Gaga at No. 2 with Edge of Glory.
Of course to get to those two, Pacquiao is going to have to knock off Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Steven Tyler and all of Maroon 5.

AJ Banal Retains his WBO ASPAC BantamWeight Title After a Bloody Fight with Tyson Cave

AJ "Bazooka" Banal (25-1-1 with 19 KOs) retained his WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight Title after a controversial and bloody encounter with the trash talking Tyson Cave (15-2 with 5 KOs). Banal wins via technical unanimous decision over Cave after the fight was stopped in the eighth round due to a severe cut suffered by Banal due to an accidental head butt which happened early in the fifth round.

Referee Tony Pesons had to temporarily stop the fight three times in order for the ring physician, Dr. Jose Unabia to check the severe bleeding of the cut in the right eyebrow of AJ Banal. After the ring doctor examined the injury for the third time, he had no choice but to advise the referee to stop the fight because of the continuous bleeding, which obviously hampered the sight of the champion.

Banal posted a considerable advantage on all scorecards of three judges when the fight was stopped in the eighth round.

In the fight, Banal had to apply quick lateral movements in order to corner the unorthodox yet evading fighting style of the loud Canadian who had no plans of fighting Banal toe-to-toe which was made manifest in trying to run most of the time in order not to get hit and avoid the power punches of Banal.

The comical display of facial expression on the part of the challenger coupled with dancing prowess made the fight even more entertaining to the boxing fans.

Banal was able to land solid punches in the face of the challenger even if Cave did not want to engage war.

Tyson Cave boasted of having a better physique as seen in his abs.

It must be remembered that during the weigh-in, the loud and trash talking Canadian said that Banal cannot hit him at all because of his excellent fighting movement, but Banal responded that he would let his fists do the talking.

Interestingly, Banal was able to silence the loud and trash talking Canadian after he was declared a winner. But, after the announcement, Cave obviously could not accept the decision of the judges prompting him to display unwanted movements which irritated the crowd and booed him.

Indeed, the fight dubbed as “Pinoy Pride 7-Battle at Mactan” was a display of endurance, discipline and heart of Pinoy fighters who, even in times of troubles, difficulties and hardships manage to capture success.

Now I can see another Pinoy boxer who can make a big statement in the boxing world.

Nonito Donaire Plans Two Fights This Year - To Face Anybody Arum Picks

Nonito Donaire Jr. the number 3 pound for pound and Bantamweight king after signing a multi-year deal with Top Rank promotion last month is now planning to at least have 2 more fights before the end of the year. He is planning to fight in October and then in December, in naming the two potential opponents:

“We’re looking at Oct. 1 or 15. I still don’t know whom I’ll fight but I’d prefer a champion. It could be a Japanese or a Panamanian or whomever. Then, I’m hoping to fight in the undercard of the Antonio Margarito-Miguel Cotto" furthermore, Donaire added that is ready to face anybody Top Rank promoter Bob Arum picks for a possible fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on October 1.

Nietes match moved again

LAPU-LAPU CITY—Donnie “Ahas” Nietes’ reputation as a fearless ring warrior must be giving the camp of Ramon Garcia Hirales the creeps.
Hirales’ handlers sought yet another postponement of the Mexican’s defense of his World Boxing Organization light flyweight (108 pounds) title against Nietes in Bacolod City.
Originally set in August, it was rescheduled for September. Just when the organizing ALA Promotions was finalizing details, however, there came a call from Team Hirales on Friday requesting that the showdown be moved to October as they need more time to prepare.
ALA bigwigs, Michael Aldeguer and his father Antonio, agreed, with consent from the co-organizing ABS-CBN Sports.
“Obviously, they want their boy to be better prepared against Nietes,” ALA vice president Dennis Canete told Manila-based sportswriters here to cover Pinoy Pride 7: Battle of Mactan being held at the Hoops Coliseum at presstime last night. “It’s okay as it will also give Nietes more time to train.”
According to Canete, the 29-year-old Nietes, who hails from Murcia, Negros Occidental, has been working out at the ALA Gym here and is ready to fight Hirales any time.
Apart from pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, Nietes is highly admired in Mexico for his toughness and big heart.
Nietes is perhaps the only foreign fighter who successfully defended his title (WBO minimum flyweight) in Mexico trice, the last against Mario Rodriguez in August 2010 in Sinaloa.
After holding court in the 105-pound class for five years, Nietes, who totes a 28-1 win-loss record with 16 knockouts, made his initial foray in the 108-lb division last April, knocking out Mexican Armando Vasquez in the first round at the University of St. La Salle Gym in Bacolod City.
That feat may have triggered the alarm bell in Hirales’ corner. If Nietes can do it in hostile territory, what more in his birthplace?
Hirales (16-2, including 9 knockouts) knows he must be at his best form to weather Nietes’ challenge.

Gesta vs. Pimentel Fight Photos

Gesta Wins Over Pimentel via 3rd Round TKO

Undefeated lightweight rising boxing star Mercito "No Mercy" Gesta (22-0-1, 12 KOs) lived up to his hype, as he utterly annihilated and outclassed Mexican journeyman Jorge "El Tigre" Pimentel (23-12-0, 17 KOs) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, winning by 3rd round stoppage.

Gesta chin-checked and dropped Pimentel once in each of the three rounds, prompting referee Raul Caiz Jr. to call a halt to the bout.
The San Diego transplant from Mandaue City, Cebu showcased his fast hands, power punching and poise, snapping Pimentel's neck in the third round with a vicious upper cut, and punishing him repeatedly with his superb counter punching. Gesta's speed and power was simply too much for his hapless opponent who took the fight on a week's notice.

After the fight, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum expressed his approval of Gesta's performance and spoke about a possible fight against bigger names like Miguel Vasquez and the winner of the main event between Brandon Rios and Urbano Antillon in the kid's future.

Yahoo Sport's Pound 4 Pound Top Ten

1. Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KO) - Welterweight, is an eight-division world champion, the first boxer in history to win ten world titles in eight different weight divisions. He is also the first boxer in history to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes. Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) named him "Fighter of the Decade" for the 2000's . He is the WBCSuper Welterweight World Champion and WBOWelterweight World Champion (Super Champion).

2. Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KO) - Middleweight: Ring World Middleweight Champion and the former WBC World Middleweight titlist. He is also the former WBC Super Welterweigh Champion.
Fresh from snatching the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization middleweight belts from Kelly Pavlik via comfortable unanimous decision early last year, Martinez humbly marks the most notable of his last two wins which came as his first title defense for WBC middleweight title against Paul Williams, a fight that punctuated a second-round knockout victory on November 20, 2010 in a rematch of their first bout which he lost a majority decision in 2009. That was the first knockout defeat of Williams after winning six fights since his first loss to Carlos Quintana in 2008 via a unanimous decision.

3. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (41-0, 25 KO) - Welterweight - WBC Emeritus Champion: If he continues to be less active or would just fight less competitive fighters, then Sergio Martinez might just overrun his post as the No. 2 best boxer in the world today. His total knockout percentage drops to 60.98 from 64.10, despite his grandmaster-like approach in boxing.
But, his resume still looks impressive, bringing - in fact - increasing attractions to resume negotiations and to seal an agreement to fight Manny Pacquiao, the only fighter seen to beat him on the 20' x 20' canvas, anytime and anywhere.
Banking on his status as the Pay-per-View king and his ingenuity in marketing and promotions, boxing public sees him hostaging the most compelling fight of the new era.

4. Juan Manuel Lopez (30-0-0, 27 KO) - Featherweight: WBO Featherweight champion - ACHIEVES THE HIGHEST KNOCKOUT PERCENTAGE AMONG THE TOP TEN pound-for-pound boxers in the world today. And it's only fair, basically, to rank him higher than Nonito Donaire, Jr., his close competitor in the lower weight class. Just six years in professional boxing, he has already fought 30 times and remains undefeated, bearing 90% knockouts, versus Nonito Donaire, Jr's record 26 wins and 1 loss, boasting only 66.67% knockouts after 10 years since he launched his professional boxing career in 2001.

5. Nonito Donaire, Jr. (26-1, 18 KO) - Bantamweight: World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization Bantamweight titles (Unified). His two distinctive victories: 2nd round technical knockout last February 19 over long-time champion Fernando Montiel and 5th round technical knockout over Vic Darchinyan in 2007. Donaire, Jr.'s total knockout percentage out of his 36 wins is 76.32.

6. Wladimir Klitschko (55-3,49 KO) - Heavyweight: WBO and IBF Heavyweight Champion ("Unified"), the Ring Heavyweight Champion and WBO Super Champion. Still a great draw in the heavyweight division, bearing 84.48% total knockouts.

7. Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 28 KO) -Lightweight: WBA and WBO Lightweight Champion ("Unified"),
The Ring Lightweight Champion and WBO Super Champion. Marquez's ranking is repulsed. His performance over Michael Katsidis was brilliant but so predictable and not that appealing in the sense that Katsidis is not really a fighter who has a chance to beat him. His performance over Juan Diaz during their rematch only showed relatively marks of aging Marquez who might just settle for less than simply to survive from a potential knockout. Marquez scores 65.52% knockouts.

8. Timothy Bradley (27-0-0-1,11 KO) Welterweight, Junior welterweight: WBC and WBO Junior welterweight Champion ("Unified"). Though his last nine fights are void of knockout victories, he still considered an exciting fighter. His last three big opponents made him a promising fighter, to wit: Devon Alexander (21-0-0), Luis Carlos Abregu (29-0-0) and Lamont Peterson (27-0-0). All three, he handed them their first defeat. He scores 39.29% knockouts.

9. Yuriorkis Gamboa (20-0-0, 16 KO) - Featherweight: IBF Featherweight champion and WBA World Featherweight champion. A fast rising star from Cuba who scores 80% knockouts, inclusive of his recent stunning performance over Jorge Solis via a technical knockout in round 4. Solis lost to Manny Pacquiao in 2007 by way of technical knockout in round 8.

10. Giovani Segura (26-1-1, 22 KO) - Junior flyweight: WBO and The Ring Junior Flyweight Champion. Ranked No. 1 in the light flyweight division, Segura scores 78.57% knockouts. He first snatched his WBO light flyweight title from Ivan Calderon (34-1-1) whom he handed the first defeat last August. A rematch is scheduled on April 2, 2011 at the Auditorio del Estado in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.
